4-CDC is a synthetic cathinone also known as 4-CDMC and 4-chloro-N,N-dimethylcathinone [1, 2]. Its full name is 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-(dimethylamino)propan-1-one, monohydrochloride and its molecular formula is C11H14ClNO • HCl . Like other synthetic cathinones, 4-CDC is modified based on the structure of cathinone, which is a naturally occuring alkaloid from the khat plant. It’s replaced with a methyl group at 3 different locations of the cathinone molecule, and with 4Cl at another location. 4-CDC has stimulant-like effects, and is similar to amphetamine chemicals both in chemical structure and in pharmacological effects .
In a comparative study of different synthetic cathinones, the “Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics” reported that whereas some synthetic cathinones exhibit empathogen psychoactivity, 4-CDC has a stimulant effect more akin to amphetamine .
According to a 2017 review of the current scientific literature on synthetic cathinones, published in “Current Topics in Behavioral Neuroscience,” synthetic cathinones all have psychostimulant properties, with behavioral effects on locomotion and memory produced by increased levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain .
