Description
Pharmacokinetics:
Also known as 5F-MDMB-PICA, 5F-MDMB-2201 is one of the more common synthetic cannabinoids [1, 2]. It’s based on an indole core structure, in which the 1- and 3-positions of the indole ring system are replaced. The 1-position of 5F-MDMB-2201 is substituted with a linear 5-carbon chain terminated with a fluorine atom. Its 3-position is substituted with an amide linker, which has a nitrogen atom likewise substituted with a 1-methoxy-3,3-dimethyl-1-oxobutan-2-yl group [3]. In scientific nomenclature, the substance is written as Methyl (2S)-2-{[1-(5-fluoropentyl)-1H-indole-3-carbonyl]amino}-3,3-dimethylbutanoate (C21H29FN2O3) [1].
Scientific Studies:
According to a medical report published in “ACS Chemical Neuroscience” in 2016, 5F-MDMB-2201 binds tightly to the CB1 cannabinoid receptor. It acts as a potent agonist at the CB1 receptor, demonstrating even greater potency than THC in both in vitro and in vivo studies [4].
A later study, published in “Drug Testing and Analysis” in 2019, found that 5F-MDMB-2201 has a greater affinity for the CB1 receptor than JWH-018, making its effects comparatively more acute [5].
