Description
Pharmacokinetics:
BK-EBDP is a synthetic cathinone also known as n-ethylpentylone and ephylone. It’s a newly developed stimulant-entactogen compound chemically related to pentylone. BK-EBDP is a central nervous system stimulant known to cause classic stimulant and entactogenic effects similar to MDMA, cocaine and methylone [1]. Its formal name is 1-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)-2-(ethylamino)-1-pentanone, monohydrochloride and its molecular formula is C14H19NO3 • HCl [2].
Scientific Studies:
In a 2019 study published in “Drug Testing and Analysis,” researchers determined that BK-EBDP blocks the uptake of dopamine and norepinephrine. With elevated extracellular levels of these neurotransmitters in the brain, the result is a stimulant effect on the central nervous system [3]. A 2011 article published in the “Journal of Medical Toxicology” reported that the effects of BK-EBDP and related synthetic cathinones among users include elevated energy levels, higher libido and increased feelings of empathy. Negative effects have included cardiac, psychiatric, and neurological symptoms that required medical treatment. The article concluded that according to clinical evidence, synthetic cathinones like BK-EBDP are similar to amphetamines not only in chemical structure, but also in the effects they produce [4].
