LGD-4033, also known as Ligandrol, VK5211 and Anabolicum, has selective anabolic effects targeting just the muscle and bone tissues. As a non-FDA-approved selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM), it’s used in the fitness community to enhance muscle growth and it’s sometimes used by athletes for improving athletic performance.
In the medical community, LGD-4033 is being studied for it’s potential medicinal value for elderly patients with osteoporosis or muscle wasting.
In a 2010 study on 76 healthy men, researchers looked at the safety and effects of LGD-4033 administered at various doses each day over a 3-week period. They tested for changes in participants’ lean muscle mass, strength markers and stair-climbing performance over the period, and measured their sex hormone levels for any abnormalities. By the end of the study, the researchers concluded that LDG-4033 increases muscle mass without affecting fat mass or causing any adverse events. However, it does suppress testosterone, which could potentially offset the balance of other hormones .
