Ostarine, also known as enobosarm and MK-2866, belongs to a class of drugs called selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMs). SARMs have steroid-like effects, without actually being steroids. Some fitness supplements incorporate ostarine into their bodybuilding formulas. According to medical research, ostarine has the potential to help reduce muscle wasting and frailty in cases of aging, chronic disease, osteoporosis and other conditions .
Ostarine has a direct anabolic effect and is commonly used in the fitness community for increasing lean muscle mass, lifting heavier weight and improving endurance. While ostarine provides the same level of benefit as other SARMs like Dianabol, it tends to be the safest SARM and cause no unwanted effects.
In a 2019 study published in the “Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism,” researchers tested the effects of ostarine on physical function and bone health in postmenopausal rats. They found that the rats fed ostarine had better bone mineral density and volume density on average, compared to rats not fed ostarine .
Researchers looked at the effects on humans in a study published in the “Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle.” They found that in postmenopausal women, lean body mass, hair growth and bone density increased when ostarine was taken .
